Alopecia (al-low-P-sha) is a condition in which shrinking of hair follicles occurs. Androgenetic Alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women. Some sources hold that Androgenetic Alopecia afflicts 50 to 75% of the female population between 40 and 65 years of age. African Americans rank 2nd in incidence and severity of Androgenetic Alopecia. Aside from hair loss, Androgenetic Alopecia allows more ultraviolet light to reach the scalp, damaging sensitive skin.
